WM Plus Protection Plan

Does anyone have any comments or experience with West Marine's "Plus Product Protection Plan" ??

Insurance is only for those who absolutely could not afford the loss covered, and/or for suckers.

Every chain store has a "protection plan" like that. BECAUSE THEY MAKE MORE MONEY ON THE PLANS THAN ON THE MERCHANDISE.

It is that simple.

If you're the kind of guy who drops, breaks, crushes, loses all the toys, the plan might be good insurance for you.

Or you use a credit card that offers to double the manufacturer's warranty. Amex, Visa, MC, all are available with that free benefit, even on free cards. My Garmin went nuts and six months after Garmin's warranty expired, Amex gave me a full credit for it and said "throw it out, buy a new one."

Why pay the store when you can get an extra year of warranty for free?
