A unsolicited shout-out to J.T. Halden, and Halder
Marine Service, in
Fort Lauderdale, who manages the Spectra
Watermaker outfit down here.
About 18 months ago, as the new owner of a 44' cat headed around the world, I solicited input from this board re: watermakers. many responded, and I eventually chose the Spectra Cape Horn, and bought it through JT, even though my
boat was in
Annapolis. I chose JT because he spent a lot of time on the
phone with me explaining the options etc.
Anyway, the unit was shipped to my home, and "installed" at my otherwise-capable boatyard. You can see where this is going.
JT offered to commission the unit for free when I got to Lauderdale, and when I arrived after taking the
boat south this
winter, sure enough, there he was.
Long story short: my yard botched the job --
leaks, improper
wiring, improper placement of
electric pumps underneath potentially leaking
parts, etc.
JT must have spent 4-5 hours re-doing the install, returned the next day to make sure all was right with the world, and then helped me and my wife understand all of the nuances of care and feeding.
Customer
service like I rarely experience. In addition, he's a fine sailor, owns a
catamaran himself, and was generous with his
advice to the this first-time cat owner.
He's at HaldenMarineService at yahoo dot com, and his
phone (cell) is nine-five-four-five-one-five-seven-oh-seven-seven.
Best,
Jon Glaudemans
