Re: Spotlass Stainless???

On stainless you do not want to leave any sort of a coating like a wax. Although counter-intuitive, it is less reactive to oxygen when left clean.

Re: Spotlass Stainless???

So I tried Spotless Stainless today on my bimini supports. It worked well on half the other half it cleaned off any rust that was there but left a strange residue. I did the entire job at the same time so everything was the same. The weather was overcast but 89. I waited 15 minutes and then put a second coat on to keep it moist, then wiped off everything with a wet towel. Now I have to clean whatever is left. I tried to use a stainless cleaner but it did not work.
Has anyone had similar problems? Maybe it was on too long or got dry. Funny thing is that half of it work and the other really looks worse than when I started.

Re: Spotlass Stainless???

I think you really need a hose rather than a towel. It has to be flushed away. Is the better looking side the one done while the towel was cleaner?

I dab more on about ever 10 minutes to make sure it doesn't dry and keep this up for the full half hour recommended. It's very fast - beer in one hand, foam brush in the other. Three laps of the deck and rinse.

I would try again and use a hose - or even buckets of water sluiced over the metal. I'm not sure salt water is ideal but it's certainly better than a towel. When done correctly there is no polishing needed after use. The stainless looks like you just brought it from the store.

Mainsail,

I am sure that the pics above are an accurate representation but are not truly before and after which most want to see as there seems to be some cheaper and home made stuff that can do the same.

And I'm a pretty tough customer to please but the stuff does what it says if used correctly. Occasionally I need two treatments but most of the time it works on the first round.

My two complaints are that it works best when warm, meaning in Maine we don't have a lot of time to clean our stainless and it can be tough to keep wet.

I find it works best on a warm, humid pre-rain/cloudy evening with the sun low..

I know. That is why I was surprised at your first set of pics.

Warm and humid is where I live.
