I've found New Balance to be a better fit for wider feet. Not that I consider my double E's wide feet. More like narrow flippers.

What kind of recommendations for cold wet climates, there is a winter race series where I live (close to Alaska) and going onto other people's boats I would like something that would keep me dry and warm without scuffing up all their topsides, any recommendations? Was thinking just the westmarine seaboots?

These work quite well, the sole is very soft and non marking.
I keep a boat specific pair, the rubber is so soft it picks up all kinds of crap if you wear them off the boat.
Great winter work boots. Call them "Greeners" around here.
Replacement felt liners are cheap.
"Got a spare set of felts with my new greeners, matches good with my dinner jacket eh?"

Over the years I've used every major brand and I have to say the West Marine's boat shoe last the longest. For cold wet weather- in New England we called them duck boots they're basically rubber bottoms and lace up treated leather from the ankle up with felt liners that are removable. make sure you wash the felt frequently because your feet are going to sweat in them and if you just dry them they will be salty and get damp very quickly. For dry cold weather I prefer the next size up Crocs with heavy wool socks the Crocs are well insulated on the bottom, the tops are full of holes so they let moisture out.

Looked at new pair of Sperry Topsiders the other day. The sypes, cuts in the sole that make them sip resistant, are very shallow, not like the deep cuts in the older shoes. Seems like they are buying into planned obsolescence hoping you'll quickly wear the soles down to where they are no longer slip resistant. Quit buying Topsiders many years ago because they don't fit my fat feet. Have a pair squirreled away in the closet will have to check out the soles for hardness when I get back home. Know that I had a pair of West Marine boat sole sandals that did harden to the point that they were slippery on concrete

Have tried Crocs which work okay if you don't get them wet and replace them regularly. Like the protection of the enclosed toe but my feet sweat in them and need to wear socks in hot weather. Once you get them soaked, the interior sole is slippery, lets your foot slide around and they make a squelching noise as you walk around. On wet surfaces, once the soles are worn, it's safer to walk on ice.

Have switched to cheap Keen knock off sandals that are inexpensive and comfortable to wear.

I have been wearing Speedo water shoes for a year and love them-great for sailing or any water sport.

Best pair of total non-skid footwear I ever owned were a pair of Head logging boots custom made with a corked sole. Leather laces up to mid calf. I could skip across a hemlock boom of logs carrying a 100# boom chain and not even get my feet wet. Mind you, we covered the deck with rubber matting on the towboat similar to the old outdoor door mats. Used to have to lay down a new floor in the wheelhouse every couple of years, though!
Probably be a little hard on the teak decks of today... Phil
