Pantaenius is a Selective & Elective Joke Can someone help?

I am in the market for insurance and after a not successful attempt of find insurance with common calls I saw on Youtube a commercial for this insurance called Pantaenius, I filled up an application and sent in very excited just to get the following back.

Dear Ms. Hamann,

Thank you for considering Pantaenius America for your yacht insurance needs. Unfortunately, due to underwriting guidelines, we must decline your request for coverage.

Once again, we thank you for considering Pantaenius America for your yacht insurance needs and please do not hesitate to contact our office with any quesions or concerns.

Best Regards,

Joanne McHugh

I called in because I was in shock with this answer! I am not a criminal, never had a problem or claim with insurances of any kind at all so, why not even a motive was listed? So I called and they are very rude with a totally careless for your business kind of attitude, I was in shock!

They say nothing and answer all your question and concerns with another question! Basically as I could understand they wont insure vessels under $150,000.00 Specially in Florida! The impression I had is that unless my boat is under my bed in my bedroom they wont even consider my application! LOL

So where to go to have my 1973 Morgan value of 60,000 on the way to Miami insured?? Marinas do not even want it at their place without insurance!

Anyone?

If you're staying in the U.S. .. Do you have home owners insurance.. if you do, see if they will just add it to that.. that's one option. Or check with Geico or almost any other domestic insurance company. Who's your car insurance with.. most likely they do boats too.

For a fully comprehensive insurance with Pantaenius UK one needs a full survey including in my case a hull thickness test.. then the named person has to provide qualifications appropriate for the proposed areas of navigation..
USA I believe has more rich folk so the minimum is higher.. keep the trailer trash like me out..
If you just go for 3rd Party likely you'll get it..

PS; I am insured with Pantaenius.. best out there.

Save yourself a whole bunch of trouble and send you request for a quote to the various boat insurance brokers that have access to multiple companies as they will know who is best for the type of boat you are looking to insure.

Marinas want liability insurance, which is a lot easier to get (and cheaper) than a comprehensive policy.

Pantyarse is a good company. They all have limits to who and what they cover. Unfortunately sometimes that excludes some people. I actually had to change from pantaynearse to topsail because they don't cover Grenada in the water during summer. Obviously trying to spell pantayneeeus can be a problem for some.

Another vote for BoatUS. Reasonable rates, good service.

I have insured several boats using NBOA marine insurance out of FL. currently they set me up with AIG, who paid a claim almost immediately and then DID renew me. Worth a shot.

We carry Pantaneius insurance and we are not covered if in Florida during the hurricane season. If you don't like their policy, buy a different one.

Re: Pantaenius is a Selective & Elective Joke Can someone help?

I have used Boat US for years. No problem getting the initial policy and the claim service was very good the one time I needed it. I would be wary of auto insurers who might take your premiums but understand little about boats.

Re: Pantaenius is a Selective & Elective Joke Can someone help?

I found BoatUS to be bureaucratic and expensive. I went with Chubb through a Seattle broker and have been very happy. My boat is from 1981 so not new. I expected them to require a survey but they did not. I am sure I will have to have one at a future renewal at some point. My broker is Rich Haynie. They have been great.

Re: Pantaenius is a Selective & Elective Joke Can someone help?

I have never had a marina or harbormaster ask to see my proof of insurance in more than 25 years of messing around in boats. US, Mexico, some Caribbean.
