I don't know if you found one but Bradenton has a yard on the bay that I once looked at a boat in. In fact there were several just inside the Bradenton bay that looked really nice.
The Boca Ciega Yacht Club ( BCYC.com ) has a links tab that has anchorages and Yards to use all over west Florida. You will have to look at it to find where you are and where you want to dock.
If you head into Tampa Bay you have salt creek boat works and other good yards if you want to go that far up the bay.

I had forgotten about sneid island. Is there enough water to get in there? Salt Creek is another good option. Stay away from shell point marina in ruskin.

While Snead Island Boat Works does good work (we've just finished a month-long refit there) it is not inexpensive and one cannot work on one's own boat in the haul-out area. Moreover, one cannot bring in an outside contractor to do any work unless that contractor is employed by the yard itself which charges an over-ride. If, however, one has major repair needs, SIBW is a good choice. We have been dealing with the family that owns the yard for 19 years and, with few exceptions, they have been very reliable.

FWIW...

Re: Palmetto, FL

Snead Island Boat Works Inc continues to profit from the reputation the old manager, Steve Austin, earned them. When you bring your boat to Snead Island Boat Works there is little chance the manager, Bill, will conduct quality control. He often relies solely upon the information given to him by employees. If you are looking for him, you can usually find him operating the travel lift, instead of checking to make sure your boat is being taken care of. The son in law, Talmadge Mathews knows very little about boats, and even less about management. Gary Alderman, while he was once the backbone of Snead Island Boat Works, has little involvement in the day to day operations of his company. Gary Alderman will usually "fix" the wrong doings at the yard on the tail end, by adjusting the billing. For the sixty to ninety dollars an hour you will spend at Snead Island Boat Works, you are much better off taking your boat elsewhere. You have been warned. To all future Island Packet Yachts 'Chainplate' and 'Tank' job owners, be sure you personally remove your cushions. To all past Island Packet 'Chainplate' and 'Tank' job owners, you might get itchy when you sit on your cushions because they were not removed before fiberglass was ground (Loafers Glory, Wanderlust, among many others).
