We are thinking about getting one of these

Nobeltec Navigation

We talked to a tech person at Nobeltec and it seems that our current old Furuno radar is compatible and we can link the radar and navigation software/GPS and Sirius weather all onto our Itronix GoBook II heavy duty laptop. Sounds like it's just what we're looking for.

Anyone have any experience with this system?

Get it in writing that this can be done with an agrement that you get a 100% refund and that they pay for the return shipping if you cannot get it working as promised.

Compatibility between competing companies who manufacture integrated systems is spotty, even though Nobeltec does not make their own nav hardware. Data transfer NMEA 0813 its easy, with incompatible ethernet languages or other forms of data transfer its usually problematic or impossible.

Caveat emptor.

Thanks David. That's great advice. We'll probably make another call to their tech support before we actually buy it and confirm -- and get names of people we talk to.

I would love to know if it works too...but it seems so damned expensive...
