Nav table lid support

Okay Jim Cate--Whilst I can stop laughing so hard, I will muster up a helpful suggestion to comply with your wise recommendation to stick with the satin finish. Noticing that your pofile identifies your location as somewhere in the SW Pacific, of course, you would think that it is particularly important to minimize glare in such sunny locations. There is nothing more annoying than to try and dig through all of those layers of papers(charts) typically stuffed down in the dark, unlit Nav table with the bright and cheery South Pacific sunshine reflecting off of nearby shiny surfaces and objects into your sublimely relaxed tropical sailing eyes.

Well, I'm sure glad that you can understand the ocular protection aspects of nav table lid supports, for many toss that off as unimportant... sheer support denial.

But I must disabuse you of thinking of me (and Ann too) as exclusively tropical cruisers. Just now we are indeed in the South Pacific, but a bit south of the tropics here in Tasmania. Now Tasmania is one of the neatest places in the world, but tropical it ain't, and brilliant sunshine sometimes hides behind big rain clouds. In fact we had hail in the cockpit just a few days ago, and it is mid summer here. But we love it none the less (in the summer), and of course we have our non-dazzling nav station lid support (old scratched up plastic parallel rules) to protect our vision. OSHA would be proud...

Noted--when I arrive down there in Tasmania, I will relax my concerns about the Nav table support and instead, get the snow shovel out of the lazerette compartment to clear the hail. Now, is it best to have an anodized aluminum snow shovel or...?

I grew up in Chicago. I have a very aversive reaction to snow, snow shovels, or anything else related to that stuff. I won't even eat snow cones in Hawaii.

So, no advice other than staying the hell away from anywhere that snow is a serious issue. We have seen snow here in Tassie plenty of times, but (so far) only on the tops of what they call mountains here. I see photos of yachts covered with snow and I just can't believe that folks go to these places voluntarily! OOhhhh, the humanity...

On the other hand, I think that the anodizing would get scratched up easily. Try 2205 stainless...
