The previous owner of my boat left a few bits and bobs of gear around when she sold the boat. One of those items was a round wax toilet bowl seal with obvious chunks missing. When I couldn't get the Jabsco head working and I found the gasket and seal on the pump shot I though I would try gobbing some of this stuff on their. The result? Fixed! Likewise leaky hatches and hose barbs? Sealed. This stuff is the bomb!

Then it occurred to me that I had seen a demo video of someone using a similar product to seal cracks is hulls in an emergency. Only this stuff was like $20/oz and the wax toilet seal is only $2 for a whole pound. I am wondering if the POs are crafty veteran cruisers with a trick up their sleeve or if they just had the stuff on the boat in case he ever needed to install a new toilet.

I mentioned that in an earlier thread (don't know which one). The stuff is called Stay Afloat. I bought some a while back, and remarked that it's very similar to a toilet wax ring.

Hopefully I won't ever need it, but if I end up using it, I'll buy the wax ring to replace it next time...

It seems like that stuff is a wee bit denser than the toilet bowl ring. 6 or a half dozen.

i have used toilet seal wax rings for past 3 yrs with my formosa--- before i went to sail opb in gulf of mexico i sealed my formosa's leakage in the stern tube/packing gland system with it. worked great-- boat remained afloat.

Deck stepped mast? probably better off fixing it. But I'm sure it will stop the leak on a temporary basis. It stops leaks, but doesn't solve problems...

Melt over low heat, and stir in cottom fibers. When set, makes a strong crack filler.
Also mix with wood sanding dust to fill checks in wooden spars, Self lubricating for the parrel beads.

yeas, its got to have some strengthening agent added as toilet bowl wax otherwise is really weak. You might be able to use some cotton balls, stretch out the fibers, then chop them up a little smaller.
