Mercury Dinghy: No Documents for Registration

I bought a 270 Mercury Inflatable Dinghy at the boat show">Miami Boat Show. The dinghy was delivered last week. Everything OK BUT I have no documents at all: no invoice (with Hull number), No Bill of Sale, No MSO (Manufacturer Statement of Origin.
I need those to register it and get a registration number.

I have sent email to the seller asking to send me pdf copies by return email. After several emails he finally told me that they were working on getting them from Mercury who delivered the boat to me.

Several days later still nothing.

I think that those documents should have been sent with the boat in the first place and without even me asking for them.

I cannot use the dinghy and I'm wondering how long I will have to wait for that.
In my opinion this is a very bad service for people supposedly knowing that they have to send those documents anyway.

Still no more answer from the seller and no documents. Do you think the DMV will accept an affidavit and the packing list only?

Re: Mercury Dinghy... No Documents for Registration

Mercurey is known for extremly poor customer service.

You will need the paperwork for future warranty service. keep ptting pressure on both the dealer and the Mercury "customer service".

I regret buying a Mercury, but did it becsuse of the 10 year warranty.
If something breaks however it will take 3 or 4 months to get it fixed each time: Since 2007 I have returned the dink to the dealer for warranty repairs 4 times and it has been like pulliing teeth to get anything done.

New floor, new keel, transom separated, broken eyes for grab-lines, etc, etc.....

Warning...DO NOT BUY A MERCURY DINGHY...Poor quality, poor customer service.

Re: Mercury Dinghy... No Documents for Registration

My understanding is that a certificate of origin is what is needed on new inflatables and supposedly there is a law in place in FL regarding selling a new dinghy or inflatable w out one. I may have mis heard. I registered an old dingy w no title saying it was made in 1971 (prior to having titles lol)

Do you think it is because I posted the problem on CF that there was that almost immediate reaction?

I'm scratching my head on this. The single time I had a warranty problem, Mercury was wonderful. I mean, beyond what I'd even expected. Ours was an airdeck and it was out of warranty (that 10 year warranty does NOT cover the airdeck), but they replaced it anyway.

Re: Mercury Dinghy: No Documents for Registration

Looking at all the Mercury bashing, I thought i would mention a very positive review of my 2007 Mercury 270 Airdeck (hypalon model). It served me very well for FULL TIME cruising in the tropics, never a leak, looked great, performed great, for well over 2 years until someone else liked it so much that they stole it from me, or did I forget to tie it... hm.. Anyway, just wanted to say that I had good luck with mine even though I know that 2 years isn't really all that long a life for a dinghy, it was still holding up well and might have for years to come, oh wait it did have one issue, after one year in Australia (going into its third year of life) the high pressure floor (not hypalon) started to seem like it was sticky or melting, then I just kept an old sheet over it and then it was ok still no leaks. So maybe it wasn't perfect, but it was a good dinghy, I miss it, may it RIP.
