I have the 35 e however if you want the 80e you would be miles ahead to look at the spectra Ventura.
Ventura 150/200T - Spectra Watermakers
Or just give tellie a call.

Re: katadyn water maker

We have an e80 and have used it a lot in the past 6 years. We have sailed Miami to mexico to Colombia to Jamaica to Trinidad across the atlantic and getting ready for year 4 in the med.
we run it off our solar panals - had 390w now 490w and it consistently produces 3.5gph - there are only 2 of us and each time I think we should have gone for the e160 the admiral says why -- when we need water we run it about an hour or 2 a day and get all the water we need - and we do not skimp showers just don't leave the water running full time while we are in the shower
in the western carib we ran it everyday for 1-2 hours
it is easy to pickle as we have it pickled now for the winter and simple to install and operate -
what else would you like to know

I see that katadyn has now bought spectra so essentially it's the same brand now

Re: katadyn water maker

I know rowers who used 40e. Asked why, they said - RELIABLE.

WE do not have one, but I did some research on the small output models from and I could buy any of the newer Katadyn models.

Re: katadyn water maker

Interestingly they all produce about the same volume of water for a given number of amp hours, its just the time taken to produce this water volume that varies. However, in comparison to even the smallest Spectra they use a lot more AH. You can see why the rowers like the the 40e for its size, cost and ability to be hand pumped.

Thankfully living in NW Europe its one piece of kit I won't be requiring.

It is my understanding that they have stopped making replacement parts for that equipment and that it can be very difficult or impossible to get rebuild kits.

Just bought rebuild kit and spare membrane for our 40E. Had several choices to order those from. No problems what so ever.

However, if I had a need for more water and had more space on board and had more money I would by a Spectra as it is more energy efficient.

If anybody will buy a Katadyn please keep in mind that installation is a key to its proper functioning. And that its manual lacks hugely on installation information.

Actually there is no problem getting the repair parts. Katadyn will continue to provide parts even for the discontinued 160E.

Re: Katadyn water maker

There are literally tens of thousands of the survivor 35's in use by the us military so a really doubt they would stop supporting them.
