Invermectin for Antifoul

I thought I had read a thread in CF on the use of Invermectin as an additive for antifoul, but on searching I cannot find any references.

Has anyone any experience of using this product?

Re: Invermectin for antifoul

There is some stuff called Ivermectin used in an injectable parasite control for cattle sheep etc. Since it controls ticks, worms and all other parasites, perhaps it will prohibit marine growth. The package does warn that it is harmfull to birds, fish and wildlife. A 3.5% solution is used at the rate of 1ml per 50kg body mass for cattle.! How you would decide how much to mix into your paint is anyone's guess and whether it would last and not merely dissolve immediately is also unknown. The cost too may be prohibitive. Why not try to buy a small amount from your local veterinary supply store, mix it with your antifouling and test it on the dinghy.!

Re: Invermectin for Antifoul

We have used ivomec on our sow heard. It works well on internal and external parasites. I don't see why it wouldn't work as antifouling, but it is expensive. Google "Ivomec" to see the latest price. I think adding powdered copper would work just as well, and it is a whole lot cheaper.
