Thumbs up Ed Rowe Marine Surveyor

I feel that I need to let everyone here know about my experience with Mr. Ed Rowe, a marine surveyor in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

I hired Ed last month to inspect a sailboat for me (which I did buy). Due to the boat size, Ed estimated 2 days. We agreed to meet at the boat at 8:00am and Ed was there ready to go 30 minutes earlier. We pulled the boat out and within ˝ hour he called me to say that the keel is lower on one side by about 1/8”. Since it is not a new boat and there was hard fairing around the keel stub, both the owner and broker disputed the finding and said it is just the way the last yard faired the bottom.

Ed continued to survey with a moisture meter (something that many surveyors in that area don’t use) and found a few more problems. After the sea trial, Ed moved on to the inside and looked at the keel bolts from the inside. He was able to turn the one on the side he claimed was lower BY HAND!! At this point we stopped the survey as I was not prepared to take this repair on myself.

Ed agreed to stay in town (he lives 2 hours away) WITHOUT charging me while we waited to see if the seller would fix the keel.

I hired Ed again to oversee the repair as I am not local. Ed came on a SUNDAY (again 2 hours drive each way) since the yard called him to take a look. He ended up staying ˝ day WORKING himself on the boat together with the yard people and DIDN’T want to charge me!!

Looking back now, a few weeks later, I know Ed saved me about $15,000!!! He was right about the keel in the first place and I have no doubt it was the right call.

He is an HONEST guy with a lot of INTEGRITY , VERY professional, and knows his way around boats. I highly recommend him and would hire him again without thinking twice.

Re: Ed Rowe Marine Surveyor

I started dealing with Ed over 30 years ago when I was a yacht broker in Ft Lauderdale. I recommended him to all my clients because I thought he was the best and toughest surveyor in town.

I lose several sales because of his surveys but never lost the customer.

In addition to being an excellent surveyor he has a wealth of knowledge about different boat brands, models and builders. Can warn you in advance if a boat you're looking has potential problem areas or weak points.

Glad he's still around.

The water is always bluer on the other side of the ocean.

We used Ed for our purchase survey in 2003. He was excellent in every way and spent a 10 hr day going through every single system and part of the boat in detail. Highly recommend him.

You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

We used Ed a few years ago and he did an excellent job. Very thorough, and fair. The broker lost a sale due to Ed, but he did the right thing.

We have had several surveyors since. None of his quality.

Re: Ed Rowe Marine Surveyor

How great to hear such accolades for a surveyor. I had a bad experience with another guy in the past that cost me BIG BUX. I will surely use Mr. Rowe if I need a surveyor in the FLL area in the future.
