Eco Friendly Fuel Cans

Has anyone found a way to actually use the CARB/EPA compliant fuel cans without spilling diesel all over the deck? I'm trading mine in for models sold in mexico that actually have a vent in the can...........

I am with you on those new (spill more fuel cans).
Never spilled a drop with the old cans. New cans OMG, have not found a way not to spill with them.

It's weird, I used to have problems with the spouts but now I actually find them more useful than not. I make funnels out of two liter soda bottles with the bottoms cut off with a razor. If I need to restrict the flow (for filling up a small tank with tight hoses) I put the cap on the bottle and drill a hole in it.

It's a bit of a pain in the rear to hold the nozzle thing down, but as long as I have a huge funnel to pour it into it works fine and I spill less than I do with no nozzle on as it doesn't run down the jug.

Even with a huge funnel (the red one WEst sells) we have left diesel in a couple of oceans. There is just no way in the dark on a rolling boat to use the new jerry jugs. What was EPA thinking? Spilled diesel has to be worse than fumes. The old nozzles didn't run down the jug.

Sounds a little like an oxymoron.

I wonder what one looks like... or does? Maybe its designed to spill onto your decks so you can't burn the stuff?

I use the ME friendly jerry cans.

The 60's era metal ones that don't spill and don't split when you set them down hard..

I have some hope that I am going to be able to find regular old-fashioned plastic jugs (I worry that the cans would rust on deck) here in Bermuda. Does anyone know? Bluestocking?

Gorhams has the old type with the vent cap. Don't where you are at the moment, but if you call them 441-295-1550. and ask for Henry or Andrew or Timmy, they will put them aside. Red and yellow. Give them my name, I was Asst Manager of the store until 1998.

Why don't you come down the Caribbean?
It seems everything here is very good: I only buy stuff that says: NOT FOR SALE IN THE USA.

Outboards, antifouling paint, even the cockroach baits here arn't there.

I've even seen food that says not for sale in the USA. I wonder why not? More eco something? More tasty and they don't want Mike Myers doing a doco on it?

We have 'normal' gerry cans here. Normal gas cans, normal gas pumps. This place is weird, everything is quite normal. Maybe cruising can be, instead of adventure, just coming back to normality????????

If you buy water jugs that are the same brand as your fuel jugs you will likely end up with real nozzles that fit your fuel jugs. *grin*

i never pour from any fuel container,allways use a tube
insert tube into container and filler hole, then cover top of container to be emptyied with a rag and blow into it between thumb and forefinger untill fluid flows down the tube,creating a siphon.

allmost never spill a drop,tilt can to get the last of the fuel out,and pull tube thru the rag when empty so no drips.

hannah--they wont take em..i use that kind for my gasoline. i HATE thenew spillall jerry jugs--i cannot operate them without spilling allover deck. nasty ---some improvements need to be burned before the law makers rule them in--lol---markj-- i love things that are not for sale in usa-- those things actually WORK!!!!!
too many folks in usa not eating tasty animals, and making laws and restrictions they donot understand the ramifications of ....

I'm certain the design was not field tested. If it was it would have been found to be a failure. I pull the cap and use a funnel. It was nice when fuel cans had spouts. It was much safer as well because the chance of spillage was minimal.

I would imagine more unburned hydrocarbons are released into the atmosphere from spills than ever before.
