Re: Echotec watermaker?

I have the 1000AML. Great unit and fast is my experience. Easy to pickle for storage, too. The pressure gauge started leaking and one call to Echotec had a new one on the way to where I was going, no questions asked.

Re: Echotec watermaker?

Echotec makes a quality water maker, one frustration I see at times from Echotec clients is that the company removes the part numbers from some of their off the shelf components and replaces them with their Echotec label. That can make it more expensive for replacement parts giving you only the company as the source rather that the great price equalizer known as Google.

Cruise RO Water makes a similar water maker, for less money and equal quality and since I'm the owner, I can say we don't hide our industry standard off the shelf parts, we leave the original labels on and list the part numbers in the manual.

You can check out the 20GPH manual here.

You don't, not unless you have LiFePO4 batteries anyway!
An AC motor can be run off of a 2000W inverter, but really only with the motor running and alternator spinning. So while it is a good back-up, it's not the recommended way to power a water maker.

Now, sure you could put a DC motor on the piston pump like the folks at Ecotec do, but in my opinion it's not really realistic to be able to handle a 40A DC load from your battery bank without running your alternator at the same time.

For folks that have to go 12v DC for their water maker, there really only is one choice in my mind and that is to go with a Spectra. Sure they cost a bit more, but you are paying for the design of the energy recovery pump that makes 12v DC water making possible. The piston pump used by Cruise RO and Echotec is an energy hog pump so the best way to power that pump is with AC, but the plus is it's a simpler pump and costs less to buy and maintain.

I wonder when the Spectra patent runs out on that pump.

Re: Echotec watermaker?

The patent on the original Clark pump has already ran out but they made so many good improvements on the original patent that just copying that original is it going to get you much

Are the Cruise and Echotec similar to the Desalator from France in terms of parts used?
