Defender

Hi!

I'm looking at a purchase on-line from Discount Marine and Boat Supplies - Inflatable Sales - Defender who say they've been supplying boaters since 1938. Has anyone dealt with them?

It can be a bit hard if you have a problem with a supplier when you're an entire ocean away!

Cheers

I have been buying from them for years. Their selection is excellent and their prices are considerably better than the largest US Marine supplier.

Defender is a place I usually check. Sometimes they hit the price and other times they don't. They do ship any place possible. Customs and shipping do matter too.

Their prices are usually very good and I never had a problem with them.

When I was in CT, I would always go to the Defender Warehouse before WM. They were helpful and prices generally a little cheaper, but not always. They have a really nice, canvas shop and rigging shop for line. They do send the cable out. I ordered some product from them earlier this summer, no problems.

Many times over the years to include roll up inflatable and at least $15,000 in electronics

I've spent thousands with them. My dinghy came from there too. Dealing with them has been absolutely perfect. I wish every online supplier was this good.

Funny you should ask...

I just had a week phone hell, but Defender came through with flying colors. I ordered a Force 10 gimballed propane stove that had to be shipped from the manufacturer (Surrey, BC) to me (just north of Boston, MA), and the fragile stickers weren't enough to keep Fedex from dropping it and putting a good-sized dent in the bottom. Since the damage impacted bolts and the wiring assembly, we called Defender. They made the claim against Fedex and got on the phone to Defender to get another stove in production (??slow time of year??). My new stove came yesterday, we're putting it in today (if Hurricane Bill lets us) , and we'll be off for a couple weeks' cruise next week. Defender gave us a great price, excellent customer service, phenomenal communications, they were just great. Now if only they'd come up and help us install...

I've heard some real venom on an overseas order, but generally they are competitive with the other big names in price and service/satisfaction. Give 'em a call, see if they are your overall best choice, and use a credit card for the protections that can give you.

The only downside I have had with Defender is they keep a history of all your orders so you can go back and add up what you have spent.. I really don't want to know.

They have great customer service and tend to be very efficient. and generally speaking the prices are pretty good too.
