Can't get a price list

I have been trying for days to get Taylor Lavac to send me a price list for their stoves. There has been an exchange of several emails but regardless of how I express to them that I would like a price list the return email always comes with questions so that they can "advise me what stove I need," but no price list.

Is there some reason why their stove prices are such a closely guarded secret? Are they afraid that if they give them to me I will get scared and run away?

In their first response to my request for a price list they had questions about what kind of boat it is and what kind of stove I currently have. I answered that and asked again for a price list. Then they responded (still no price list) asking whether I need an oven and what the dimensions are of my current stove.

I think if I have the dimensions of their various models (available online) and a price list I can figure it out myself if a) the stove will fit, and b) if I can afford an oven or not.

So frustrating.....

Re: Can't get a price list

I don't know about Lavac, but have had similar experiences with other vendors. Unless I am pretty well set on their particular product, they usually are struck from a company I want to do business with.

If answers are so hard to obtain pre-sale, what will warrant and parts service be like?

Of course, the issue could be a new person on the job, but usually procedures are developed for email responses. It's very aggravating for sure.

Lots of times it's because they don't sell direct, often in that case who you are asking doesn't know. They should refer you to a dealer though.

Re: Can't get a price list

They only list spare parts, not the whole stove.

Re: Can't get a price list

Does not their website indicate the size, oven, or not, and burner arrangements of their stoves?

Good luck with this one, Becky, I'd almost kill for a stove that worked like a household one. Dangies! FWIWl, the best stove I had on a boat was an old Eno, (French made) that I always thought had been made for use in trailers (caravans), because it had 4 rubber-clad feet. It had a big, round burner in the oven and three flame settings, low medium, and high, and it did a great job for many years. Only a two burner, though.

Something to watch for, if one of you likes to cook Asian in a wok, you need to be sure your wok will work on the largest of the 3 burners, and you still can cook the rice!

Good luck on this one. I'm still looking.

Ann

Boatie, oldragbaggers are looking for the stove.
I understand You may see it as a set... Sometime after using the stove it is good to have a toilet, of course. But for the time, they asked for a stove only. It is possible they do have a toilet already

Re: Can't get a price list

Ann, I wish I could reconcile myself to propane, but I just cannot. It scares the beejeezus out of me. We do carry a propane grill on the stern, but that's outside.

The system we have onboard now is a Hillerange 3 burner propane with oven. It is original to the boat so the whole installation is now 32 years old. We have not, and will not, fire it up. It's outta there!!

I have lived with pressurized kerosene, pressurized alcohol, and non-pressurized alcohol in the past. I will take any one of them, with their respective downsides, before I would consider propane. Diesel doesn't seem to be a good choice for us because we hope to spend the majority of our time in warmer climates.

We were hoping to find a nice kerosene stove for all the obvious reasons; fuel hotter, cheaper, and easier to find everywhere. Plus, if we install a kerosene cabin heater they can both feed off the same tank.

Boatie, we do have a head. But if we find we need a replacement that's good info.

I did finally get a price list this morning. I have to go do a currency converter now to see how it works out in U.S. Dollars.

I will be keeping my eyes open for something used on eBay and Craigslist over the winter also.

Re: Can't get a price list

On the west coast of North America, kero is pretty available, not so in the So Pacific, till you get to NZ or Australia where it is available, but not cheap.

Sorry you're not interested in propane, it has served us very well for a lot of years, but i know some people feel very strongly about it and would not try to change your mind.

I hope you are able to source the stove and fuel you want.

Ann
