Bright work

I am doing the World Arc. I need to redo my toe rail and small amount of other bright work. I am deciding on weather to use awlwood or cetol.
I am interested in your opinion on my choices as to durability and ease of application and maintenance. This is for a do it your self job.

I have Cetol on my boat. Goes on easily, can be drippy so be careful. Three coats 24 hrs apart followed by 2 coats gloss makes a pretty durable finish. Easy to add another topcoat as needed. Only problem is that it will lift if moisture gets underneath, usually at joints, etc. Then it has to be removed, sanded, and recoated. Doesn't always match the rest for some reason. Wouldn't be a bad choice,though.

I met an old sailor that swears by 3 coat of Cetol clear only, no gloss at all, a quick sand and reapply each year and yur good to go. I just did the Awlgrip Awlwood, very expensive and I'm not thrilled with the outcome. Can you spray cetol?

I discussed her doing my toe rail. I was not working under ideal conditions. It was hot and I was working correctly in the sun. This call some air bubbles to surface. I was warned of this and the application instructions. It looked nice when we were done. How it looks several years from now will be the test.
I'm surprised I did not give any more responses than this

I think I know that old sailor...!

Cetol doesn't recommended applying Gloss on bare wood as it has no UV inhibitors and will peel. Sure enough my friend had to start over.

I am finishing the World Arc. The Awlwood has held up well. I would recommend your consideration for this product.
