Boat Transportation - East to West

G'day, I am looking at getting my Dufour 38ft sailing boat transported on the back of a truck from the East Coast to the West. Does anyone recommend a truck company/driver and how much do you think the cost would be? Also I would need to deliver to a DIY yard in San Diego on the water? Regards

Craig

Joule is well regarded. Dudley is based in Washington state hauls north south, sometimes east west he is good too.

The only do it your self yards that I know of are Dricols in Mission Bay not Shelter Island, there is a boat yard in Oceanside that will allow you to work on your boat. You may have some luck with Knight and Carver in the south bay. None of them are cheap especially compared to what you see on the east coast and FL. You will need to have all the insurances and comply with the state of California's regulations.

Domusu I saw from another post that you live in Japan. My son Adam lives in Kobe, teaches English, originally with the Jet program now has a private contract.

When I purchased my Ericson 39B I had it moved from Baltimore, Maryland to Port Towsend here in Washington State. Cost was $7,100 to go from east to west. The Beam of your boat has alot to do with it also. I do not remember what the max width of a boat can be without having to have a car in front of the boat & trailor and one in the rear, I think it is somewhere around 13 feet, I think your boat would be just fine and it would be a normal boat move without any extras.

Kobe, yeah not to far from where I live! I am in Osaka Umeda, I am transporting my boat to the west then sailing it via Hawaii to Japan. I am going to do the first leg to Hawaii then get some one to deliver the rest of the way. Japan is an interesting place, I hope your son is enjoying it. Thanks again.

The company I used is no longer in businees, they recently went under. I have used associated boat movers in the past, it is family owned and has a few generations of family members moving boats. They have a good reputition.

I used Joule last year to move my 41 Tartan from Long Beach, Ca. to Rockport, Texas and was pleased with the service and delivery.
