We are in Canary Islands where Sahara dust covers boats a couple of times each year. This dust brings metal particles (from African mines) that make extremely aggressive corrosion conditions. I have seen SS wire split mid-length where unaware sailors tied laundry lines to their standing rigging.

And one of the boats I maintain is a 70' beast from the 80'ies - endless amounts of SS to clean ...

I am possibly an extreme case scenario. Practice makes perfect ;-)
