I just keep my ip100 in a locker. I have one which is dedicated to office supplies and manuals; just toss it in there. No problems at all in almost 4 years. The ip100 is a rugged little beast.

Re: Best inkjet printer for the boat

I know this thread is about ink-jets, but I would recommend Brother HL-3170CDW, the smallest color-laser-jet with duplexer out there.

Amazon.com: Brother Printer HL3170CDW Wireless Color Printer with Wireless Networking and Duplex for Small Businesses: Electronics

$199 on a special.

Nothing beats it.

Annie,

I store my ip100 in my Nav table with my other stationary supplies. I also keep it in a large ziplock bag in case someone spills a coffee and it drips down into the desk. (Yes, it has happened!)

If you didn't already get it I would recommend getting the "Automobile Power Unit" for it so that you can power it directly from your batteries when you don't want to run the inverter.

Agreed, but it was hard to keep an eye on the guest crew all the time when we first went offshore. Now we avoid extra crew!

I see the value in such a rule, but I live at the chart table when I'm below -- it's my own little nest and the nerve center of the boat -- so a lot of coffee (and g&t) is drunk at my chart table, and some of it gets spilled, inevitable in rough weather. My charts are mostly Imray folios which can be wiped clean. A few coffee stains are a small price to pay for all this joy.

Maybe I should put in a cup holder there somewhere

Re: Best inkjet printer for the boat

I give up on inkjets a few years ago, since the colors always dried out before I could use them. I use laser printers now which use a powdered ink. That would be a bit large for a boat but a black & white one wouldn't use too much space.

That is why I started this thread: to tell everybody which inkjet printer does NOT have those problems experienced by the masses. You obviously did not have this Canon iP100 ??!! We already know that with most other (cheap) ink-jets, the cartridges dry out.

I have been looking for something similar to the old canon bubble jet portable printer. It was mafe to use with you laptop and was about 12"x3"x2" and did a single A4 sheet st a time. Anyone find anything similar.

Re: Best inkjet printer for the boat

Has anyone tired these?

A4 Mobile Printer : PJ-622

Don't use ink, once you buy it you're done. Just need a special type of paper (which is pretty cheap as well).

Regards,
Simon

I looked at these, the problem is the thermal paper does not last and in the tropical heat turns black in a couple of weeks.

Take a look at the Canon Pixma series. I have had an 8220 on the boat for two years without trouble.
