Best Choice for BBQ grill

As we shop for grills it has come to our attention how many variables there are. Can folks who have had great results with their SS grills please brag and tell us why they love them? And if you dislike yours, please tell us why. We thought this would be easy. Btw we have a cat, plenty of room for a grill over the steps, and want to feed 6-8. Infra red is interesting. Any out there love theirs? Are they tough to clean?

The makes I like are Dickinson Sea B Que and Magma - the rectangular version

While I like Force 10 stoves, I have found that their BBQs blow out in light winds.

Flat plate or open, very hot and very well made

Definitely Sovereign from Aus.....though it hurts to admit it. I bought a new SeaBQ from Dickinson but did not fit it, it is just lightweight. Then got the real deal.

I have a Charbroil Grill2go x200. It's an infrared grill, about 225 sq inches. It uses a SS grate to cook on and convert the flame to IR. Cooks very hot, fast, about 25% more efficient than conventional grills. The food has a more "charcoal cooked" taste and really seals in the juices.

I keep one in the RV, just bought a 2nd one for the summer beach cookouts. It will hit 700* if you like searing your steaks. To keep the temp in the 350* range you'll need to keep it on low, unless you've got the entire grill covered in food. It's that much more efficient. It's a heavy duty cast aluminum grill with a small vent in back, it won't blow out or lose a lot of heat in the wind, like many other grills do. The first one I paid $110 for, the 2nd one was an Amazon warehouse scuffed box deal (still new and pristine) for $93.

Here's a vote against the Magma, at least the Catalina model that we have. Reasons I don't like it:

Inadequate heat output for serious grilling.
Burner rotted out after less than 18 months.
Replacement burner about to go after a similar time.
Flame shield (or whatever you call the device between burner and grill) about burned through after ~ 36 months.
Blows out in only moderate winds.
No safety thermocouple on burner.

In Australia, the grills are expensive (about twice US price) and the replacement parts even more so (if you can source them).

I'll not be buying another one of their products.

PS We are full time live aboard cruisers, and use the grill a lot... might last just fine in other scenarios.

after having to magma grills and getting tired of replacing regulators and seeing the ugly black stainless surface I also bought a Char-Broil grill cast aluminum housing with stainless grates. Much cheaper and much better in my opinion

We have an old 1989 Magma, not so great. Round one. Only good in calm conditions. Looks nice....

A friend of mine buys a new stainless grill from Home Depot each spring & throws it away at the end of the season...much easier than me fighting with my Magna POS.

We had the round Magma and hated it. Food barely fit. The flame went out in any breeze. Things rolled off. Parts and accessories are obscenely expensive.

I lost the center dome cap from the radiant plate over the side. You can't buy it, you have to but the whole assembly. Around $45.

Instead, for $85, I bought a larger, rectangular stainless steel table-top grill at Amazon (same one is about $120 at the big-box home improvement store.) I mounted it to a table made from PVC board clamped to the rail.

I'd never buy another Magma. Just not worth the premium.

We have had at least 3 Marine BBQ and NOT to happy with any
Then we went to stainless unit from home depot and threw away after 2 years they were okay but took too much space
Best to buy a land portable like the Weber Q 2200 ours has been fantastic on the boat for 5 years we have a small table we bolted it on to but if you don't have space if folds down

We have a Weber BabyQ Q100 and it may be the best grill I have owned. Stores away in the lazarette when not in use and sits on the transom, cockpit table, bait table or wherever else and the surfaces near it don't get hot. Cheap enough that if it succumbs to the marine environment, I can get 5 new ones for the cost of a good stainless grill.
