Re: B&G - shocking warranty service in Turkey

Part of our selection process for our 2016 instrumentation upgrade was global support.

We selected Eric Steinberg from Farralone Electronics in Northern California. Eric has a reputation for helping cruisers. Because of his reputation he also moves a lot of product and he has good supply chain relationships. We could have purchased components cheaper. But support was worth the increased cost to us.

You could reach out to him. Eric chased up a missing power cable for our AIS. B&G didn't list a part number making it hard to chase. I actually used a Navy contact to dind the part number. When Eric shipped the cable it had a part number.

Personally I've found B&G's documentation to be pretty ordinary. I like their equipment but it is a mix of consumer electronics, low volume components and is clearly sourced from many suppliers. A mismatch of connectors and protocols. They even run on an old unsupported linux distro.

Unfortunately the demise of the US support of the many mil stds and specs has allowed an adhoc evolution of proprietary, open source and protocols to flourish. Innovation inproves but robustness and compatibility suffer.

In B&G's defence they are a supplier. They rely on a distribution network that they don't control.

Good luck fixing your problem.
