B&G - shocking warranty service in Turkey

I have a failed Triducer which needs to be replaced under warranty.

I am currently in Turkey and have been informed it will take 4 to 8 weeks to replace.

As I am cruising full time, this is clearly an impossible situation.

So much for the 24 hours warranty replacement advertised on the B&G web site!

The local Raymarine dealer says their replacement time is 2 to 3 days.

I wish Lagoon had stayed with Raymarine gear.

If I were in your shoes I'd simply purchase a replacement and install it. Have them ship the warrantied part to you wherever you are in 8 weeks and keep it as a spare or sell it...
It's just an Airmar transducer.

Re: B&G - shocking warranty service in Turkey

I would consider that, even though it cost €455.

However, the B&G agent in Turkey doesn't keep stock, so has to be ordered from Netherlands and can take a looooooong time to clear customs

So, the problem isn't B&G, but customs in Turkey.

No, problem is still with B&G. If customs is an issue, they should keep consignment stock in Turkey. There is a massive boating industry to justify this.

I believe that this is your transducer. As you can see, there are multiple sources for this part. Hope this helps!

CF members to the rescue!
there's always another way to deal with boat problems, but when you are stuck and the problem is right in your face - you sometimes lose your sense of perspective. A forest and trees thing...
Good luck with the transducer, Anthony. Airmar is usually quality item, bummer that it died so far from home base

Yes, I have been dealing with Promar for over a week now, who are only responsive if you keep on their case, but still unable to get a fix to my situation. Because there is no stock in Turkey, there is no solution.

I have phoned B&G in Netherlands which is the logistics centre for the region but they won't deal with the end customer. I also tried the B&G Australia office, got a call centre in Asia somewhere, who just pointed me to Netherlands.

Tried working through the Lagoon dealer for Turkey (Tezmarin) who offered to help if I had a RMA - back to Promar, etc.

Life is too short, so ...

I called a few B&G dealers in the UK, and have ordered a replacement to be shipped to a friend in the UK (out of Netherlands direct) at the cost if £339. The friend is joining us in 10 days time so it is a prudent but expensive solution.

The UK supplier is Rowlands Marine who have been brilliant- phone +44 1758 613 193. Liz in the phone was my Florence Nightingale.

So, in my opinion, the B&G warranty isn't wirth the paper it is written on unless you are in a mainstream country.

Sounds like you're focused on the B&G labeled one, but as posted above, any of the Airmar with the nmea2000 fitting work. There is no difference between them. I have the b&g branded one here and besides a small sticker on the side, it says Airmar everywhere else.

How do you know the transducer failed? If it's depth only is just a solid state

Re: B&G - shocking warranty service in Turkey

I think the problem of distributers who don't stock a comprehensive range of spares exists in Australia too. I've come across it with watermaker, genset and pumps. These are for parts which I wouldn't have considered carrying as spares. The way round it seems to be sourcing a generic part, but it is annoying if we have to go into a marina for an unscheduled stop, makes the price of the spare part very expensive.
There is also the annoyance that the distributor will only talk to the tradesman, not me directly, so even if I can fit the part myself, I still have to go through a trade with an account with the distributor to place the order. Very frustrating.

A Raymarine technician plugged in his Transducer unit, it worked for depth but mine did not.

BTW, I believe AIRMAR have different connector plugs for the various manufacturers. They certainly have different part numbers.
