Aurora Sure Step

The deck on our 20 year old Beneteau is in pretty good condition, but it is a bit chalky and picks up stains…Woody wax doesn’t seem to do the job of sealing it and we are considering trying Aurora Sure-Step. Does anyone have experience with this product?

Thanks.

I realize this is an old post but, I just applied Aurora sure step to the decks and non skid areas of my sailboat and followed instructions, my white decks are now
Stained the color of this product and am having a hell of a time to clean it off, just my two cents.

Good to know. I will be dealing with the decks on my Pearson at some point in time. One product I can take off the list. So, thanks for being the guinea pig but sorry it backfired on you.

Re: Aurora Sure Step

We have also used Aurora Sure Step with mixed results. While ours did not turn the deck brownish (well, it did in one spot, but that was easily removed), it did not seem to make much difference. But worse was what happened over the next year - the wax started to chalk off and made a mess on and over everything. For the next ~year, anything that touched the deck was covered in a white residue. Footprints were everywhere and lots of clothing dirtied.

We followed the instructions scrupulously, including using Aurora-specific cleaners and strippers and prep solutions.

Re: Aurora Sure Step

I am so glad I found this thread.

I was just starting to prep the non-skid areas of the deck with a carpet-brush and matika and was thinking of finishing with two coats of Sure Step.

The brushing has removed most of the chalkiness, so I think I may complete with a phosphoric acid wash and an application of woody wax..

What seemed attractive about Sure Step was the concept of it being a penetrating sealer. From what I've read here, I'm not sure it is tailored to the amount of UV found in the tropics!
