pirate Re: when it comes to Liferafts can too big be a problem

Go for the 6 man.. a 4 mans only really suitable for 2... another thing to remember.. if there's 4 of you in there and your zipped up tight for weather.. you'd be surprised how co2 can build up in there.. not a good thing.. and not something realised when playing 'All is Lost' in a paddling pool.. and the extra water will be appreciated.

Re: when it comes to Liferafts can too big be a problem

Dave I agree, pick a raft that of course has enough room, and base this choice on how big you are, how many will be in the raft, etc.

In our Sea Survival course we had 8 people in a 8 man raft and it was a NASTY place to be.

I was more talking about those who are thinking, we're 2 people, we won't go for a 4, we'll go for a 6 just because I like the idea of a bit more space. I'm not sure I agree with that.

We will 90% of the time be 2 people on board, so we went with a 4. At the most we may have another person, which would be tight, but doable.

I wouldn't want 2 of us in a 6.

Correct the best compromise is two more then the expected number of people

Also.. if you've any sense you'll have 2 grab bags.. one with your personals and the other with extra rations.. and a couple of 5L jugs of water alongside them..
Don't count on being found inside 48hrs...

Re: when it comes to Liferafts can too big be a problem

Well the 6 man is nailed to the cabin roof as we speak! Not 100% sure but with the grab bags and the extra bodies attached about 40% of the time it perhaps is OK. Done deal anyway it is never going to move of the cabin top right!!!!!!

Cheers for the input

Steve
