It would be nice if he does get in tonight, there seems to a strong southery change coming up the coast and getting to Moreton Bay around midnight.

I'm sure he doesn't need more strong weather at this stage.

I was going to say something but chose not to..

Fruit and vege into WA and Tas are the big ones but I was sprung once with a dog on arrival into Tas....a hydatis thing.

Harry the Sailor Prince aka The Wonder Dog was a veteran of pretty much every state and national park in Vic, Tas, and all the islands in between.... caught one morning in the day job taking him ashore in Burnie....

Hope our man is home safe in a few days... hope the ex and the lawyers aren't on the wharf....

Rustic Charm,

It's a new day, here, now. Have you heard anything more?

Ann

Funny that, it is here too Good morning Ann,

No I and his family were hoping someone on CF might have had news actually. Rather hoping given the size of the area there would be someone that can get him on the VHF, if not go out and even assist him.

I don't know the Brisbane area though, I'm only going off the maps and google. And AMSA don't know either. It seems the information from Border Farce took a few days to filter through.

Re: Urgent Assistance To Find Missing Australian Yacht

Does anyone else recall the englishman... aged in his mid 70s?.... who left NZ without clearance (back when they were applying their laws to foreign boats) and sailed directo to the UK via Cape Horn?

On survival rations for a long time... lost a bit of weight... turned up unannounced in Lymington a month or two after they had held his memorial service.

Age and tenacity beats youth and skill every time.

No, but if you do recall the man's name, please share; he sounds like my new hero

Re: Urgent Assistance To Find Missing Australian Yacht

Here you go..
'
Another recipient off OCC honorary member is Les Powles he is such a celebrity Lymington Yacht Haven have given him a free berth for many years, he is 90 years old. He started sailing in 1975 having built his own boat, Solitaire of Hamble, a Bruce Roberts 34. Les had put most of his money into the boat, this never daunted his indomitable spirit. Les set off almost immediately after launching his boat with little sailing exoperience to sail around the world single handed. He had a sextant but no accurate time piece, no radio and he was to rely on dead-reckoning navigation. This first voyage nearly ended in disaster when he hit a reef off the coat of Brazil when his destination was St Lucia. At the end of his second circumnavigation he sailed into Lymington unannounced, emaciated and barely alive with no food left. He was so long overdue he had been given up for lost three months ago. There followed a third circumnavigation.'

They don't seem to make them like they used to.. Good to see someone else perservering through tough times. It will be good to hear his story.

Ha, his books are a good read. Took up sailing to get him and his golf clubs around the world, IIRC. The little Roberts 34's are tough boats.

Thanks guys.

Les Powles - clearly a member and survivor of the "go-now-club"
