Thanks RC for all the effort you have put into this thread and this man's welfare.

Re: Urgent Assistance To Find Missing Australian Yacht
Looks a bit Roberts'sy. Like the 36. But also possibly a Rob Tucker design?

Re: Urgent Assistance To Find Missing Australian Yacht
Thanks Snowpetrel, I hadn't heard of Rob Tucker, I'll look him up. It must be at least moderately seaworthy, it got the man home.
Edit: Yep, good call on the Roberts 36. I found three or four that look just the same hull, though none that I found were ketch rigs. Very nice boat, I wonder how I missed those when I was looking five or six years ago?

Looks like he landed at Scarborough Marina & not the Coast Guard pontoon.

Glad he is in safely.
I wonder what the media coverage will be.

Re: Urgent Assistance To Find Missing Australian Yacht
Not a good photo for identification purposes but it looks like a Roberts 36.
If the yellow stern on the other vessel indicates a VMR vessel it's a good start re reception.
Media will probably be mixed, "brave old sailor battles cruel sea for love" or silly old bugger in sea rescue drama".

Re: Urgent Assistance To Find Missing Australian Yacht
I join all who welcome him back safely... really glad he made it.
And now that he has, all of you who said he should have abandoned his boat, all his earthly possessions and his dreams and fled with the Kiwi Navy... he was right in persevering IMO. He made it, albeit not gracefully, with his stuff and his life intact. Bloody good on him, but if I understand about his third EPiRB hit, well, that wasn't a great choice.
But for him: well done, sorta, and welcome back to Oz.
Jim

Please don't read too much into this. It's obviously not good. But we don't know exactly what his problem is as he's not co operating and three times with an Epirb is more than enough.

Like Jim ..not sure what the 3rd Epirb event was all about....not sure about the second one either...maybe the response to the first one was just a 'we are in a hurry pack your bags and come with us' ... however...
What would you have done in his shoes?

Re the multiple EPIRB hits, it is possible than his VHF was cactus or perhaps he didn't even have a VHF fitted!

Could've been out of fuel, out of battery, ketch with very little solar, and, after that many weeks the EPIRB the only thing with a decent battery - and he was hungry.
