Hi all I just wanted to share a couple of news articles from my local sailing grounds.
The first story doesn't have such a happy ending.
Grand Rapids boater found dead on Lake Michigan beach remembered for helping addicts | MLive.com
The second news story the two people that went
overboard got VERY lucky!
Good Samaritan helps man who fell from boat | WOODTV.com
The
current water temperatures off shore in Lake Michigan are 39F. Hypothermia will claim you very quickly. Also there have been a number of boaters taking the "Cold
Water Challenge" of jumping into the lake and experiencing heart attacks or other problems.
Just a reminder as in the first article if you're out alone and the water is this cold best to run the jack lines and clip in as you only have a few minutes before hypothermia will make getting back aboard impossible.
In the second article both of these people got VERY lucky. If bystanders handn't bothered to notice the
boat and the kiteboarder hand't gone out they would certainly have been dead very quickly.
Be safe and if your on the
Great Lakes this summer be extra careful!
