when the stones make pain is when there are some blocking ductus. then there is a hot burning pain from one side of diaphragm to the other-- hurts like hell. that is when the md decides to do his deed. the open surgery of which rakuflames wrongly describes--nothing is ever RIPPED out of the body--is manipulated and excised with blood vessels stitched and the area cleaned of debris , not ripped, does have a longer recovery period. gallstones do not cause infection unless one rips the ductus in which it lodges. that is rare.
boaty--m.o.m. doesnt touch this pain, i promise.

good healing, boasun--may you have a smooth sailing path thru life.
This from your ER Nurse. Great clarification ZEE.

You also didn't give the relatives enough notice--when got released from the hospital (hit cardiac reef and had a bypass) a week before Thanksgiving the ENTIRE family showed up at my house for the feast.

The Admiral had gall bladder attacks for a few years, but daily doses of apple cider vinegar seems to have solved the problem, along with a hot water bottle to relieve the pain when they did occur. Of course, the surgeons wanted to cut it out, as an infection at sea would be serious. I almost diverted to the Cape Verdes once, but she got better and I figured her chances on the boat would be better than in a CV hospital.

Interesting reading on the internet about gall bladder attacks. Most victims are FFF (fat, female, and over forty). Most stones are pure cholesterol, and many attacks are triggered by rapid weight loss and/or cholesterol-lowering drugs.

Get well soon!

That "most thing" can bite you in the ass, though. My best friend had gall bladder surgery at age 25. She was a size 4. Plenty of men have gall bladder problems. Plenty of overweight people don't. It's one of those generalities that don't hold much water -- a lot like some of our "phonics" rules, they don't work enough to be worth anything.

Doctor Hall was the surgeon and she went in four tiny holes...

If you need or want an excellent Doctor, she is the one for you

The Doctor's name is Nina Hall. She also has the ability to have you be confident in her before she says anything. Have an appointment with her in two weeks

The Nurses were great, Not a grump or a Rachet amongst them
And we all remember Nurse Rachet from "One Flew Over the CooKoo Nest."
