Storm Glass

Has anyone every owned or seen a storm glass in action? It has a clear liquid that precipitates as the temperature and barometric pressure changes. Looks like a neat device.

Had one. Did not seem to work as advertised. We drank the liquid, it seemed 30 or 40 proof.

* 2.5 g potassium nitrate
* 2.5 g ammonium chloride
* 33 mL distilled water
* 40 mL ethanol
* 10 g camphor

I quite like the idea of them, regarding it as decoration though really, they look really nice when they're all crystalled up.

It's definitely more of a decorative item. Was thinking about getting one for this reason but did not want to dish out 150$ for paper weight.

No I found the Tempest Prognosticator worked far better. Although the leeches kept getting away…..

Just bought one for the GF as an xmas present.
Also seen a weather forecasting stone, very accurate, take a stone and hang it outside
Stone Wet: Its raining
Stone Dry: Its not raining
Stone white on top: Its snowing
Stone casts a shadow: Its sunny
Stone Swinging: Its windy
Can't see stone: Its foggy
Stone bouncing: Earthquake
Stone Missing: Hurricane

lol, nice, much cheaper too. I think wunderground.com is the most practical...

Should you be in need of a charge for your muzzle loading musket, allowing the liquid components to dry out and using the powder may work. You should be able to kill a few moths at least.
