Re: Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette!

Every once in a while, I get a nasty dose of smoke while riding my motorcycle, with a full-face helmet, even on the freeway.

Thankfully those are very short, but "dispersal" is not what you'd think it would be. and smokers in general don't seem to understand how offensive smoke can be to non-smokers.

I'm not hyper-sensitive... I can sit in a car with a smoker for example... but it is nasty and not something I'd choose to be next to for hours on end.

Sorry, but I think a person ought to be able to have a job without dying. We give masks to firemen. We don't expect cops to storm a building alone, we give them swat teams with kevlar to try and minimize the risk of injury/death wherever possible.

So I think it's pretty obscene to tell someone they have to choose between a paycheck and their health. If YOU choose to smoke, fine, but you have NO right to spit it on other people.

That is EXACTLY what you are doing every time you smoke in public.
Here in Portugal they have bars/cafes that are for smokers yet the funny thing is foreigners come in who are non smokers and they want to make them non smoking bars... why...?? there's 70% of the bars in Portugal which are non smoking why not go there...
**** I've even had 2 couples walk in a bar with 20 empty tables... choose the one next to where my pollutions making lovely blue/grey curls towards the extractor fan... and complain coz I'm smoking next to them...
Or is it coz those bars are usually boring sterile places...
You guys look for fights... and I've never spat on anyone.. thats your habit..
If someone wants a job in a bar then choose a non smoking bar... no ones forcing them... thats like applying for a job with Richard Branson and saying he should quit being rich coz your not...
You stay upwind of me and I'll stay downwind of you....
On second thoughts you'd probably move just for something to complain about

Re: Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette!

In this increasingly policed world full of nasty things, to me it appears way OTT to whinge about someone else smoking a cigarette on another boat out in the open air.

So to the OP's question, if it really worried me then I'd move.

Have to say as an ex-smoker whose never stopped missing the habit, I still like that occasional whiff of someone else's fag smoke.................and that herbal stuff you can sometimes sniff in the Carib isn't too bad either.

Cheers
JOHN

i'd just move upwind. What can you do? It's a viciously addictive habit. It's not like music they can just turn down.

What the heck is wrong with not drinking???

Really.

There are medical reasons for not drinking (drinking increases the risk that my type of breast cancer will come back).

Alcohol contains a LOT of calories and I'm not interested in getting fat over booze.

I don't need alcohol to have a whole lotta fun.

I hate to think I wouldn't be welcome because I have good reason to not drink.

Not me! I'd just talk to you on the floor, or step over you and move on.

Re: Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette!

pardon my rant, but smoking is a sore subject to me: A less than a pack a day smoker, my Dad was diagnosed with emphesyma at 62, dead at 69. He never saw his grandchildren graduate high school, college or marry, never held his great-grand kids, never got to take him sailing...a miserable 7 years for him and all who loved him. Funnny thing is that he was in great shape until he hit 62, very active, great golfer, just a super guy, always ready to help someone. No other health problems at all. He was on oxygen full-time a month after the diagnosis at 62. Could not walk 60 feet to the mailbox at 63. We begged him to stop smoking, but he refused. he said it was his choice and was not hurting anyone else. That was f***ing wrong. Watching him wither away and losing him destroyed my Mom. The non-stop medical apppointments, trips to ER, the insane medical and drug costs that insurance would not cover, the heartache and hardship it caused to the family is diffucult to describe. All preventable, if he had quit smoking. He told me that having emphesyma was like having a plastic bag over your head, with a tiny breathing hole that got smaller and smaller, slowly suffocating. We held his hand as the Dr. forced the ventilator tube down his throat, saw the fear in his eyes, watched the heart monitor flatline and watched the bran monitor go silent. Such a waste. Keep telling yourself it is a personal choice and does not hurt the family and friends.
