I am with Hudson and Carsten on this issue of using the bell or horn ONLY AS SPECIFIED,

I posted a photo of a horn and a photo of a bell (triangle bell) earlier to illustrate a point. I hope my earlier post showing both was not unclear or mistaken as I do NOT suggest using either signal interchangeably.

They are two different signaling devices meant to make different sounds for different meanings and uses.

The use of the bell SHOULD be used only for stationary boats.

The horn/whistle should be used while underway (moving).

Hearing those two different sounds, one should be aware of what they mean (moving or stationary), and respond accordingly. It can make a BIG difference to those other sailors who hear those signals. It can make a life or death difference.

Which regulation specifies that boats anchored to watch fireworks should sound their horns after the finale?

When I attend fireworks, I wait for everyone else to toot, then punctuate the chorus w/ my Kahlenbergs. Not a lot to say after that...

Thanks wingless, but even if I knew what an A/V clip was, I probably wouldn't know where to find one.
