Hi everyone,
just joined & getting some good info from you all. Can anyone tell me where I can purchase seasick pills called Sturgeron [think that's how it's spelt] someone told me they were always seasick & nothing worked better than these. Cheers to you all

You want the 15mg size. It seems to work best if you start taking it the night before the trip.

The best piece I've seen on seasickness prevention is from John Neal.

Practical Sailor did a writup on this a few months ago. The ONE thing they found is that different remedies work for different people. Their recommendation was to try several different remedies and find one that works for YOU.

My understanding is that Stugeron wasn't "banned" but just never went through the required FDA testing to be sold in the US. Perfectly legal to use it. It's been available for a long time in most of the world. Before the Internet drug store, I would buy it on business trips to London. No prescription. Usually find it on the shelf right next to the packs of Dramamine.

I'm not sure Stugeron is that much better than others but the side effects (especially drowsiness ) seem to be less bothersome for many people.

In the US, I purchased stugeron from Online Canada Pharmacy, Canada Drugs Store, Canadian Pharmacies prescription drugs , had them shipped to my home. In Mexico, I just buy it over the counter. If you purchase stugeron, be aware that there are a few different dosages.... for sea-sickness, we use the 15 mg per tablet.

Each individual needs to find what works for them... for some it's ginger, others it's pressure bands, etc. I tried several different 'remedies' and found that stugeron was the best for me.

Stugeron and other seasickness remedies do affect different folks differently. One client was a asleep for 12 hours after one Stugeron. Check the side effects before leaving home.

BTW - I use a generic Gravol. MY wife the pharmacist does not recommend Scopolamine.

I agree with Carl, John Neal's information is the best we have found. He has worked for years with reserchers in Germany and his business, with 6 new crew members every 3 weeks doing off shore passages gives him a lot of information.

We are believers in Stugeron and have bought it all over Europe and the Caribbean. (always very cheap) My understanding is the problem in the US is that the patent is expired so no company has a reason to pay for testing for FDA approval.

A pack of Sturgeron 15 I purchased in January of 2009, has an expiration date of 12-2012 marked on it.

Both Meclizine and Stugeron make me equally drowsy. In moderate conditions, both leave me feeling a bit queezy, but not sick, which I would be without. I have yet to use Stugeron in severe conditions, but my guess it that it will prove to be more effective than Meclizine. Meclizine costs less than 1/10 the price which can add up on a longer cruise. I really dislike the side effects of the scapolomine patch and find it no more effective than Meclizine.

The information enclosed with the Stugeron suggests consulting your doctor prior to taking Stugeron if: Parkinsons, Porphyria, Liver or Kidney Problems, Pregnant, Breast feeding, sugar intolerance, or taking other meds. It warns it makes some people drowsy and you should not operate machinery if you are one of those. It warns that Alcohol combined with Stugeron causes drowsiness and recommends abstaining from alcohol while on Stugeron.

I have found Stugeron was carried at the pharmacies in the BVIs and Bahamas. It's great to know it can be ordered online for us U.S. folks.

Antihistamines are among the most commonly used medicines to reduce the symptoms of motion sickness. They block motion signals to the brain. These medicines include:

* Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine)
