Need Some Deck Shoes
Hey guys. I need some deck shoes and im not sure which ones to get. Im looking at the sneaker type of shoes. Ill be going up and down rigging on a tall ship and the loafer type shoes just wont cut it i think. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

My girlfriend got me a pair of Harken HydroFlux shoes. I love them!

Re: Need Some Deck Shoes
I wear crocs 90% of the time because they keep my feet healthy, I can work on my knees, and they're excellent for getting a little water on them (beach landings, etc). If I'm hustling around on deck I'll wear sneakers or if the weather is bad foulies and boots.

Re: Need Some Deck Shoes
Before the current pair of deck shoes, I had a pair of Rockport. They were comfortable, gave good adherence to deck and mast but were unpleasantly smelly when new (it improved with time ). And they were not very sturdy: the sides burst after maybe 2 years of use.
Presently, I have a pair of Henri Lloyd. Good traction, no problem with smell, will probably last longer than previous pair.
Beside adherence, one important point is the fit: I have wide feets and many European brands follow the Italian style of narrow shoes.

Re: Need Some Deck Shoes
Best boat shoes I have ever had. Better than Topsiders. The canvas version explodes really fast, but leather should last.
I would also suggest these:
They last reasonably well in canvas, and a long time in leather.
Canvas shoes dry faster, but leather shoes last longer, it's a trade off.

Bought a pair of these last year and really like them. Comfortable, breathable, built in drain if they get wet.

Good luck.

I have a pair of Merrel Waterpos and they have done really well. They dry really fast and grip like a monster on deck. Non marking as well.

Warm or cold? Where are you, or rather where are you sailing, at least roughly

Yep, I know people who love them. on the boat or off!
My trek water sneakers make me happy in rolley conditions.
and I confess that my crocs are my usual dock shoes...

Re: Need Some Deck Shoes
I love my crocs too - but I have to confess they only last a few months on the boat, then they get relegated to the beach. The problem is the soles get worn down fairly quick, and then they become a hazard when our plastic pontoons get wet...
