Need Good Dentist in ...?

Need some extensive dental work done. Want to go someplace where the sailing is good and the prices are low, and with luck, also find a sailboat to charter/buy. Will be living in this place for a month or two or three. Any suggestions? Many thanks! Ty

Anyway, just looking for ideas.

My brother, who lives here in Melbourne, Australia, gets all his dental work done in Malaysia. Very good work, very cheap even with airfare & accom factored in.

Another friend goes to Thailand.

Both places have Sunsail charter fleets.

Medical tourism is huge in SE Asia, most of the staff are trained in Western Universities.

Perfect. I am going to check out Thailand as it is someplace I have considered to base out of while sailing. Malaysia sounds good too.Good on ya, Normanby! Thank you! I don't know what kind of dental work they had, I'm looking for a whole new set of teeth. (Doesn't that sound lovely?)
Pray for me, LOL.

Had a friend go to Costa Rica for his dental. His dentist at home remarked what a good job it was.

Re: Need good dentist in ...?

Almost any major city in Central America (except Belize...don't go there for any medical...used to live there...even Belizeans who can afford it go somewhere else).

I live in Guatemala now. First class dental here at very reasonable prices. I use Centro Dental in Guatemala City. Not the least expensive here, but excellent facilities and Docs. See Multimédica Zona 15 | Centro Dental de Especialistas. Many other good options in Guate too.

Those impressive shots of their facility on the web page are NOT stock photos...that is their actual clinic.

And, the medical complex in which they are located "Multimedica" has almost every other medical specialty you can think of right there in the same building -- one stop shopping.

Re: Need good dentist in ...?

I have been to Mexico twice just for dental work,I have no insurance and like Atoll said you can fly in and make a vacation of it and still come out way cheaper than at home..My only problem was when I thought about getting major stuff done like ,a porcelan(sp?donL) implant for a back tooth (2500.00 (US) mex. and I think it was 8500.00 stateside) and the getting put to sleep thing in a funky ole mexican town and a doc you know didnt have the US credientials he was advertising on the wall and after awhile I got the hebegeebees and decided against it,in Mex. anyway..I know I will get grief for this attitude but there are certian things a person shouldnt have done when "out there" ..What is considered good business in one place does not translate well in others, ie. letting the docs kids walk into the dental office in the middle of a procedure..My friends whole family are Med.Docs(SR.,JR.,III.,2nd eldest) in Zacateces and they are considered to be a great medical family, yet they conduct family business while doing the med. business..Things like the mother coming in and fussing the father over, then his daughter comes in and fussess him up some more..Im not going to let someone do something serious like surgery, anihstishia (?)etc in a place where most doctors graduate from a local medical school (non accredited in western countries )or have a degree from Grenada, where the enterence exam is wheather or not you can fog up a piece of glass..When the wealthy folks of a certain country go somewhere else for med. care, I do too(and I aint wealthy)..Just one mans thought..

Re: Need good dentist in ...?

Hi ty.gregory,

Please take care where you go. tropicalescape makes some sence and as I'm in the trade of sorts , can tell you some REAL horror stories. I dont want to scare you off your money saving plans but what you dont see is well hidden from your view.
Asian countries do have some excellent operators and quality work but when you average out the outcomes, I see a lot of bad work and Very Very expensive fixes that need to be completed once home.
Dentists in the homeland have local costs to contend with let alone federal government laws to follow, that these OS operators dont follow.
From someone who has seen full mouth rehabilations done OS I say be very careful.
I'm sure if the folding stuff is offered, locals will also lower their price a bit and check around as they are only plumbers of the mouth and if a local plumber say its 5000 for a toilet fit, Im sure you would get a couple more quotes?

Of course, you can find poor medical care anywhere (including the USA). Go with known good references.

Excellent care at reasonable prices is widely available outside the USA. Mostly by USA and European trained doctors in Guate. For example, my primary Doc is a Stanford graduate.

Note that the US Embassies usually keep a list of recommended docs and hospitals so that is another source to check.

I'm currently in Panama and hear lots of good feeback about medical care here too. Had a friend who went to Panama City recently for extensive dental work, good experience, but I don't have contact info for his DDS (he's Canadian and chose to have the work done here).
