Nautilus Lifeline

I saw an ad for this recently.

A handheld DSC VHF with GPS is nothing new, but this looks to be in quite a different category of ruggedness to anything I have seen before. It is a waterproof to 130 m. (Over 400 feet)

Another safety option to consider.

What is a Nautilus LifeLine

I liked this bit of advertising blurb:
"It's even tough enough to drive over with a truck - although we highly recommend against doing this as it will void your warranty!"

It is about $300.

Re: Nautilus Lifeline

That does look good. Surely they can incorporate and AIS beacon and EPIRB as well. They already have the antenna, battery etc. what's another silicon chip or two..

I would like to see a photo of Mrs. Noelex diving this baby to the bottom before I commit to further investigation...

(pretty neat stuff man.... thanks for sharing!)

Re: Nautilus Lifeline

That does look nice, though I question the 425ft depth. If it requires the cap being closed then it's bound to fail that depth rating petty quickly as the gasket looses it's perfection. After you've owned it for a year i bet its good to about 100ft at best. That's a LOT of pressure.

But honestly, if you are down 425ft, it's too late to use it. Might be good for divers in strong currents though.

Re: Nautilus Lifeline

I think the depth rating is more for divers to have it for when they surface. I doubt reception would be very good 130m down unless they were experiencing nitrogen narcosis, but even then their speech would be kinda bubbly..

Re: Nautilus Lifeline

Well right that's what I am saying. So a strong current diver can go down, and when the come back up read off the GPS to the dive master or pilot. As a boat safety radio, it's great that it can be submerged too, just thinking 425 ft is a bit deep and unpractical, I wonder if anyone will bother to test that claim
