I'm sure the good doctor will include an entire chapter on water-borne infections. There are a lot of nasty players out there in addition to M. marinum including Pseudomonas and Vibrio.
I am missing part of my left foot thanks to a Pseudomonas bacterial infection that turned into osteomyelitis. It started in a very small abrasion from a bunion.

To placate my wife when I did delivery from CT to Brazil and missed our anniversary, I bought her a loose diamond. That worked.

Sorry to hear that Jack. My brother who is 73 now had this happen when he was 8 months old. Somehow his foot got an infection and developed into osteomyelitis. They had to take one side of ankle and some of foot to stop it....that leg is also at the calf just half the size of the other. Even with that he was able to join the army at 15 (they finally found out and sent him back through boot camp when he was 16). He didn't let anything stop him; ended up serving as a federal agent until retirement.
It does give him some problems now but he keeps on tacking.

The best to you, Jack.

Mine was just one joint in my small toe. The 2 months of no weight bearing at all was no fun.

Re: Medical Issues While Cruising

Hi,
I'm glad you are doing this.

The folks at Medical Support Offshore wrote the best offshore medical handbook I've read. We got it with their medical kits and telemedical support service. I imagine it's also a part of their seminars.

In your book, I recommend you include something about the various bitey and stingy things that one is likely to encounter. An identification guide would also be nice.

Good luck!

Matt
