Jim Bouy Sea Anchor Model 929

Anyone heard of this model of sea anchor? I just scooped it up at an auction for $25 bucks. It seems like it is shaped more like a drogue than a sea anchor. Does anyone have any experience with this model. It is about 36X72.

I also think it is worth noting that in this same auction I got a weems and plath fully gimballed kero lantern for $10 complete with a wick and kero! Usually retails for $180. Score!

Ben, That model is Coast Guard approved for use on Life Boats, if my poor memory is working. It's probably too small to be effective on a boat your size as a sea anchor. It might make a good drogue. Go play with it and see.
Did you get the oil can to go with it? You've got to keep those old fashioned sea anchors well oiled.

Re: Jim Bouy Sea Anchor Model 929

"929 is a storm sea anchor for use on vessels up to 50 ft. in length. It is manufactured from vinyl-covered heavy nylon and has unmatched strength and durability. 929 will not rot or mildew. Also, it has stainless steel fittings with 1" webbing. U.S.C.G. approval No. 160.019/15/0."

That's what the listing says. I guess I will go out and mess around with it and see if it can slow the boat down, either as a sea anchor or a drogue.
