Re: Is there a Herpetologist in the House?

Colemj,
Did you have jungle canopy overhead? Came up the anchor chain? Or the sugar scoop?

My parents had a very poisonous sea snake come aboard while offshore( Indian Ocean). they had a show down in the cockpit with lots of bloodcurdling screams and jumping around Luckily everyone made it out alive. I think it came aboard on the leeward side when the rail was close to waterline. It was a mildly aggressive snake.

Coral snakes banded red-yellow-black/white are to be avoided at all cost; extremely poisonous and always gives a fatal bite. You can see them floating/swimming on the water surface while sailing; very fast swimmers. (Hint: Red band touching Yellow...you're a dead fellow.)

We were anchored off a small sandy island 8 miles from shore, where a river runs into the mountain jungle. Most likely was on a log in the cloud forest and got washed down a river during a heavy rain. Don't know how it came in, but I suspect the sugar scoop as the prime way.
