Your right about that, Bill.
For some of us who have pulled the trigger, yes, it'll change you. For f***ing ever! Everyone who does feels something, unless your more animal deep down than human. You may or may not question yourself as to whether you should have pulled the trigger. That's relative to the individual (and the courts, dependant on your local laws). I don't believe I need to reiterate Texas law/feelings on that, tho. But what's the saying that goes around here sometimes?

It's never what you think. It's far worse. What's a bitch is when you had no choice. At least, in your own mind, there's a little justification in that. But that being said, I'd do it again in a heartbeat, if necessary. Who I feel for is those coming back from overseas now that have pulled that trigger many, many times over. Thank God in my 20 years I never had to go through that.

A bomb belt around your waist, the trigger in your right hand and a welcoming but crazy grin on your face would scare off most visitors

Actually, a fake bomb belt might not be a bad idea... Could give you a thing or two to explain when you're boarded by the coasties though...

One shot with the flare gun would be better than nothing... a good old fashioned Remington 870 pump with a barrel cut to 20" and the stock removed leaving only the pistol grip makes for a gun thats small and easy to put away. Now load it with five standard 2 3/4" shells with 00 buck shot. Each shell contains 9 round shot pellets that are .33" dia and weigh 54 grains each for a total of 1.1 oz. Average number of "hits" on a humanoid target at 50 yards is 3. At 25 yards you should get 6 hits and anything closer than 30 feet you can expect all 9 finding the target. Each pellet that hits the target at 50 yards or less is striking with about the same force as a .32 special round. Multiply that by a total of 9 potential hits and it becomes clear why a shotgun is so formidable. Oh and if you're a poor shot, you have four more chances! Just sayin...
