Highly effective seasickness treatment on the horizon

I don't think I will be able to wait 5-10 years for this to save me:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0904144446.htm

Quote:
Research from Imperial College London, published in the journal Neurology, shows that a mild electrical current applied to the scalp can dampen responses in an area of the brain that is responsible for processing motion signals. Doing this helps the brain reduce the impact of the confusing inputs it is receiving and so prevents the problem that causes the symptoms of motion sickness.

This technique offers a safe and effective intervention that is likely to be available for anyone to buy, in the future.

I would probably need 600 amps at 12 volts. That means I'd need a bigger battery bank, bigger genset and more solar panels. It's giving me a headache just thinking about it!

Perhaps... but I'll bet focusing on your headache means you've forgotten how nauseous you were.

And you'd look SO much better than wearing a wristband

Get the battery wrist band. They are not cheap, but very worthwhile when needed.

My wife is very susceptible to seasickness and the battery wrist band is highly effective. She has a complete cessation of seasickness, except one time in a full gale and huge seas, steep 10 feet+ waves .

I used it once in a Gulf Stream washing machine crossing - i was fine and stood watch for 12 hours while 4 other guys were sick as hell.

I would never go off shore without these wristbands and batteries

Do you have a link? I rarely get seasick, but my wife does and the drugs just make her sleep all day. I tried to google but only found Sea-band, which apparently applies pressure to an acupoint, without electricity. Would be willing to try something new.

Try Bonine. (Meclizine hydrochloride 25mg). Works great, no drowsiness.

Re: Highly effective seasickness treatment on the horizon

I used to run a fishing charter years ago. I kept a box of what was called Relief Bands. They were made for chemo patients. They stopped production of the non-prescription version for awhile but I understand they can now be purchased. These also stimulated via electrical pulse. They were like magic. I would have a client sick over the aside, out a band on then be fine. One of the boating magazines years ago tested all the different remedies by sitting a man with chronic motion sickness in the back of a car. This'd band came away far and above the other remedies. Make sure you get version with replaceable batteries.

Re: Highly effective seasickness treatment on the horizon

Has anyone tried Ginger root? I make a tea for some people and also brew Ginger ale for others who don't mind alcohol. it has never failed for anyone I've given it to. Most of the people I know that get sick, get sick going to wind. do they drink tea or ale an hour or two before we head to windward. the pharmaceuticals work for most, but are poison to the body the band and patch only fork for few and not in rough seas. Ginger has worked in all my travels. some people get a little queazy but none have gotten sick or purged. and the side effects of ginger are better digestion, lower cholesterol and more anti- oxidants.

Haha! That's a real pirate's remedy. Have to try it.

Re, Bonine need to check if it's available locally without prescription. Still interested in the non-drug remedies tho'.
