pirate Glow in the dark solar paint..

Nissan has developed it for cars but it'd be awesome on small craft both power and sail... make anchoring at 2am on a moonless night in the busy spots a lot less stressful...

Re: Glow in the dark solar paint..

You can buy glow powder and add it to any paint. I was going to mix it with my bottom paint next time around

There's glow-in-the-dark lines. Throw in the glowing paint and drop a pill and take a trip

I'm not sure that this would be a good thing on the topsides. It is possible that the glow would render your night vision useless, much like a chart plotter can if it isn't dimmed enough. On the sides of the boat however it might be interesting and perhaps even aid collision avoidance. I'd have to see it in person to know for sure. It sure is interesting though.

Re: Glow in the dark solar paint..

The problem with the powders is the glow, except for the green, only last a few hours... not enough to get through the night. Still it'd be fun.

Would be cool on:

Dinghy
Outboard
Mooring ball
Around cleats or other "stub your toe" hardware.
Stairs or ladder

Re: Glow in the dark solar paint..

Just use a 2M candlepower spotlight. If you see anchor lights, don't shine the light near them out of courtesy, but anywhere you don't see anchor lights you might as well light it up!

Great idea! Now every anchorage will look like the Vegas Strip. Thanks for trying to ruin the last vestige of dignity this planet has.
