fire/ co alarms?

The fire alarm that came with our boat is caput, so I went out and bought a nice new one. It was a combo fire/co alarm with a sealed lithium battery, good for ten years...Except that it has an operating temperature of 40-100F and humidity range of 10-85% non condensing. Ha! We woke up the first morning after installation to a rather unpleasant chirping, which turns out to be the fault alarm.

So, I have come to the wisdom of the forum. What do y'all use on your boats? Anything?

Re: fire/ co alarms?

I use a cheap one from the harware store.

I know it works because it goes off when I cook ...

Very good actually

I don't have it stuck to the ceiling its just on a shelf in the saloon. I chuck it in the forward cabin before I bring the frying pan out.

Re: fire/ co alarms?

Mine is a Kidde unit. It specs ,10 to 95% humidty. It has not had false alarms in areas with much higher humidty and temps than San Diego.

This was a Kidde, and I found out from the website that they make most of the others brands that one sees on the shelves, so it seems that I might need to just buck up and try again, hoping that this one was defective.
