Epirb Mounting Location(s) and Other Questions

Hi all,

I am getting ready to buy a new Epirb for my Mexico trip. I was wondering about the best mounting location for a type 2 unit? I have a center cockpit with a dodger.

Also, in shopping the internet for the best prices, I noticed that Landfall has the ACR Globalfix iPRO 406 MHz GPS EPIRB - Category 2 for cheaper than anyone else by quite a margin. I wonder why that is? I will call them after the weekend to make sure these are current models and not old stock, as batteries are supposed to be replaced within 6 years of manufacture, and they are mucho dinero.

Thanks for any suggestions, Bill

I like to see it mounted near the companionway in a place where it could be grabbed reaching in from the cockpit in case of fire below.

Re: Epirb Mounting Location(s) and Other Questions

Hi, Montenido,

If it is a hard dodger, and there is room for it under the dodger, perhaps out there. Ours is mounted on the bulkhead for the starboard aft cabin, but not reachable from the cockpit in case of fire, which may be a consideration. All of ours have been mounted near the companionway.
