Thumbs down

Yup, 3 of them conspired together to change their whole way of life after 50+ years, they have slipped under the social radar, they have fooled their wives, children and friends. They have started afresh leaving their collective life's earning behind them, they are living in a foreign country without passports or with a new identity.

Give me a break!

Even if they wanted to do that, they would have found an easier way.

Yes, initially I thought they may have run into foul play until I had more facts to consider. Note to self - don't jump to conclusions until all the facts are in.

Unlikely, Otter. There were 3 men involved, and as Ben Franklin said "Three men can keep a secret. Only if two of them are dead."

It is very common when one person has an accident that the rescuer(s) get sucked into it. That's why the first rule of water rescue is never to go into the water after the victim--always keep the rescuer in a position of safety to prevent a double death. (Red Cross training, SCUBA training, any water rescue training. The absolute last resort, is getting fouled up with the victim.)
