now level 1 according to CDC,"all hands call"

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday issued its highest alert for an all-hands on deck response to the Ebola crisis in West Africa.

"Ops Center moved to Level 1 response to given the extension to Nigeria & potential to affect many lives," CDC chief Tom Frieden said on Twitter.

Level 1 is the highest on a 1-6 scale and signals that increased staff and resources will be devoted to the outbreak.

"Basically this activation allows us to pull resources from throughout the agency to respond to this," said CDC spokesman Tom Skinner.

He said it was the first time since 2009 that the Level 1 alert had been issued. Back then it was in response to the outbreak of H1N1 flu.

ETA: I see Atoll has already mentioned the man from Saudi Arabia...

I've been doing a lot of reading and 1) the man tested in Saudi Arabia has died, before his testing result has come back and 2) while reading on some sites from Africa, it seems Patrick Sawyer, the man who died from Ebola also traipsed through Ghana on the way to Liberia. Posters from Ghana have speculated there are cases in Ghana but the government there is suppressing the information.

Just some more info:

Patrick Sawyer changed planes:

This is everyone everywhere's biggest fear:

"Posters from Ghana have speculated there are cases in Ghana but the government there is suppressing the information."

Re: Ebola Fears in the Canary Islands

I also read numerous articles regarding the economic cost to Africa from Ebola, especially in connection with the events such as airlines canceling flights to affected countries, etc....

Worrisome considerations. Do we trust these countries to have the world's best interests in their decisions? (Rhetorical question)

Everyone's biggest fear?

No no, so far the press have been very good about ignoring the elephant in the room.

If I were a jihadi, I'd send dozens of martyrs into the hot zone and tell them "comfort the dying." Then bring them out and send them to all the homes of Satan, right away, before they showed any symptoms. Send a dozen walking across the US-Mexican border, and tell them to take busses to the four corners, go wait in the airports and trains terminals and dream of heavenly rewards.

That no one has mentioned there is a wonderful [sic] free source of horrible pathogens free for the taking....Now that's a global nightmare.

At least the Brits have shut down air travel from the hot zones.

Right. Realistically, the US doesn't need to worry about the two cases at the CDC in Atlanta. We need to worry about everyone else walking in and flying into...

Re: Ebola Fears in the Canary Islands

I still haven't seen any info on the two people in NY. Last I saw was something like "unlikely" and then no news. So if it wasn't Ebola that killed the man in Gatwick, what was it?

The Ministry of Truth has taken care of this issue. If you don't behave, the Ministry of Love will pay a visit.
