Re: Do you pee over the side?
when we were diving off the rib and one of the lads wanted to go I told him to pee on the floor rather than risk going out the back of the boat with a drysuit undone.
The BEST thing I ever bought in 2000 drysuit dives was a PEE VALVE! I noticed I sometimes pee'd 2ce on deco dives.
Absolutely best thing ever.

Re: Do you pee over the side?
In Lake Ontario your pee would actually be cleaner than the water.
A lot of the beaches are shut down every summer due to fecal coliforms, there is an actual guide telling you how much Lake Ontario fish is actually safe to eat.
Do what you want in that swamp, won't make a difference. Pollution laws only apply to individual people, not businesses or farms. Manure and pesticide runoff is a huge problem.
I will not let my dogs swim in it or drink it.

Do you have proof otherwise? Or am I going to have to ask the Commandant?

I'm pretty sure that's an urban legend, but if you have data to the contrary, I'm open to changing my mind.

It's was the railing about the figurehead that I unsucessfully tried to illustrate. The figurehead is forward, and somewhat above the activity. Here is the station from a different perspective:

Re: Do you pee over the side?
Don't any of you get frequent pump outs? Over the side is not safe and does contribute algae load in lakes. If you can afford a boat with a head use it and get it pump out. Know too mainly sailors brag fey never use their heads.

Re: Do you pee over the side?
I sail often alone and drink a lot of coffee and tea and need to pee often. I'm starting to realize how dangerous it is so Now I try to keep a bucket in the cockpit.

I've always done this.
Of course I'm not going to pee in front of guests, or the ladies, but usually I'm alone, or with just my kids.
I recently asked a sailing friend who also has his own boat, and he always goes below to the head, no matter what.
So, am I the only one?
I live/sail on Lake Ontario, where holding tanks are required and used by all vesels. Its not a monetary thing, but by peeing overboard, I only need to pump-out once a year. Also, when I'm alone, leaving the deck, even for a minute, is a bad idea.
And what about if I'm anchored and swimming. Is it ok to just pee while I swim? Am I supposed to get out, towel off, and go to the head like I'm at a public swimming pool? And by extension...what about #2 ?
|
As long as you use the lee rail. And use one hand for yourself and one for the boat literally. I'm with you going below is just a PITA. Hitting that little opening in a sea way when you have a large target topsides.

Re: Do you pee over the side?
I pee in the head unless we are anchored. Then I sometimes pee off the swim platform. I can't do the "over the side" thing, the side is too high.

Re: Do you pee over the side?
When we're on the move, I'm usually on the fly bridge steering, so have a 1/2 gallon wide mouth bottle there which I use, then empty as needed. When not moving (anchoring, etc.) and depending on the isolation, it's over the side - down wind of course.

Re: Do you pee over the side?
Do it all the time. However, I think it is one of the more dangerous things you can do on a boat.
