Re: Do you pee over the side?

I have a centre cockpit with high cockpit walls and no way to tighten the wheel. I need to go get me a plastic bottle thingy. Some good ideas here. I can't afford to let myself lose balance and fall in from the walk-around.

Or figure out how to tighten the friggin wheel!

Re: Do you pee over the side?

Reminds me of the story of a lady of the night, working the crowd at a bar up in Prudhoe Bay (AK) during the long winter night. She offers to bet some big macho lug that she can do anything he can do, and do it better, for a grand. He says fine, step out back, we're gonna sign our names in the snow.

The lady does her best, and then the big guy drops his pants and reaches down.

And she says "Uh-huh! No hands!"

Peeing in the ocean: Many have done it, but few admit to it. Fortunately for beachgoers everywhere, our latest episode of Reactions explains why, from an environmental perspective, it is absolutely OK to pee in the ocean. [Correction: At 1:50 the narration and text should read "250 gallons" not liters.]

Re: Do you pee over the side?

I could actually understand where the envirotards are coming from IF we were talking about a pristine clean body of water, Lake Ontario is he last of the great lakes before the ocean, it has all the pollution from all the other lakes and most of the drainage for a good chunk of North America.
The toxic waste in the St Lawerence causes dead cancerous beluga whales to wash up on shore on a regular basis. Pregnant woman are NOT to eat any fish from the Great Lakes because of pollution, mostly mercury, does that come from pee?
Algae blooms are not caused by pee but by high nitrogen fertilizer run off from industrial farming operations all along the shores of the lakes and rivers...
Yet the envirotards get all bent out of shape over pee.
Go drink out of the Don River if you think it's so clean!
Go for a swim in Hamilton Harbour, only been closed for swimming my entire life.
Yes people did develop black and white photo paper in Lk Ontario water, video is available.
How about Cameco cleaning up radio active waste right on the shore of Lk Ontario that they dumped.
How about G.E. Peterborough contaminating half the city with PCB, right on the Trent Canal about 50 miles up river from Lk Ontario, Can't disturb the river bed because they are hoping it gets covered over eventually.

Re: Do you pee over the side?

Don't risk falling overboard by peeing off the side! I'm never far from my trusty Gatoraid bottle whether I'm in the marina or at sea. My boat's holding tank is small so I try to save it for the real stuff. The bottle works great whether i am at the helm or in my berth. Just make sure it has a wide mouth and a cap. I know... Too much information!!

I relieve myself by having the ol' fire hose dangle in the centre board case. But never near shallows! For obvious reasons....

Re: Do you pee over the side?

This appears to be another one of those threads that shows how really slow the cruising life can get.

It explains why many that have sailed long distances sell their boats upon their return and continue on to the next adventure.

Do what you want in that swamp, won't make a difference. Pollution laws only apply to individual people, not businesses or farms. Manure and pesticide runoff is a huge problem.
I will not let my dogs swim in it or drink it.
I grew up in Hamilton on Lake Ontario. Back in the 60s, local Industries were pouring pollutants in the Hamilton Bay and proud of it. It was disgusting. When the fish would die, it created a stench that was unbearable! After I left, I was told, they had started cleaning it up. On a visit summer of 2000, it looked very good. Sounds like it's gone back down hill.

I definitely pee in the ocean away from land, not as often in very large fresh water lakes.
Actually, I didn't know that about urine being sterile. The topic comes up once in awhile. Now I'm armed.

My friend sailed to French Polynesia in the 80s. One morning in an anchorage, he went on deck to find a French Schooner had anchored near by during the night. A young French girl went forward to the netting off the bow-sprit, sat down in the net, hiked up her dress and began to do her business (1&2). My friends jaw just dropped and she gave him an indignant look. Now that's over the top!

Do you have proof otherwise? Or am I going to have to ask the Commandant?
This is the majority of MOB, that have been recovered, were either without pants or had the zippers down. If you are on my boat, you have a self inflating vest on AND you are clipped in to a LIFELINE when ever you leave the cabin...
