Re: Do you pee over the side?

Trivia:
On the Tall Ships in days of yor ... at the bowsprit was the place to go.
On Port and Starboard sides were two ropes that the sailors used to hang on to while doing their business, named John Ropes.
That's where we get the term "Going to the John".

Re: Do you pee over the side?

Only if I'm way offshore and alone on watch at night. If you do, make sure your teather is shortened enough so you can't fall off the boat. It's almost impossible to get back aboard being dragged on a teather!

And I have no idea about the being civilized post meant. I guess he meant you don't hang it over the rail in the marine. At night it is fine.

Yes. I wrap an arm around a shroud to ensure I stay aboard.

Re: Do you pee over the side?

No. Not safe.

I collect liquid laundry detergent bottles. The spout is easily removed.

Each male crew gets his own. NO sharing.

The advantages are,
Wide mouth opening.
Good handle (pretty important)
Very good sealing cap. (also very important )
At least it starts out perfumed!

I'm not an officer, so I have to ask. What is the fly bridge for, if not for that?

Re: Do you pee over the side?

I've hung it over the side with a female or two aboard and their husbands. With your back to them, their husbands have done it. My wife didn't seem to mind. Anyone that worries about that may have an insecurity issue?

Re: Do you pee over the side?

I don't always pee over the side, but when I do it's because of Dos Equis.

Re: Do you pee over the side?

I quit practice.

Way too dangerous.

Cockpit is best, in dire conditions

Re: Do you pee over the side?

I have first hand knowledge of 2 racers falling overboard doing just that!

Re: Do you pee over the side?

I used to (as did my female partner) so as to extend our hold tank range. But now that I have a composting head I usually don't. It goes over the side anyway (when we're away from land facilities), but dumping the bottle is safer.

Re: Do you pee over the side?

I've heard shellbacks are allowed do it over the windward rail.

Baja racer Ivan Stewart used to use a catheter with the tube going out the bottom of his truck. Once he was held at the start by tech for fluids leaking from the truck.
